Children of George and Jane Laidlaw (Riddell) Muat

2.3.6.1.1. George Muat (1921- )

George Muat was born on 8 April 1921 at 18 Argyle Place in Rothesay in the County of Bute, Scotland. His parents were George and Jane Laidlaw (Riddell) Muat and his father was a master baker. George boarded the S/S Andania with his parents and younger brother on 20 July 1929 in Greenock to immigrate to Canada. They arrived in Montreal on 27 July and were headed to their father's friend in Toronto. They settled at 616 Bloor Street, West, in Toronto. His mother died at their home in 1933 of tuberculosis.

George's father and his two young sons returned to Scotland the next year. They crossed into the U.S. at Niagara Falls and boarded the S/S Tuscania in New York City, arriving in Glasgow on 9 January 1934. They were going to visit their maternal grandfather, Francis Riddell. Sometime before 1938 George's father moved the family to England and he remarried in 1938. Nothing more is known about young George Muat's life after the move to Yorkshire, England.

2.3.6.1.2. Frank Riddell Muat (1924-2006)

Frank Riddell Muat was born on 18 April 1924 at 18 Argyle Place, Rothesay, to George and Jane Laidlaw (Riddell) Muat. His immigrated to Canada with his parents and older brother in 1929 and returned to Scotland in 1934, the year following his mother's death. He died sometime between July and September 2006 in Middlesbrough, Cleveland, England. It is not known if he married or had children.
