2.3.5.7. Ellen Forsyth (1896-1982)

Ellen Forsyth was born at 19 London Road in the Camlachie district of Glasgow to Robert and Elizabeth (Riddell) Forsyth. Her father was a carter. In 1901 the family lived on 14 Margaret Street and by 1911 they lived at 230 Holm Street. Ellen was 15 years old and worked as a message girl for a picture frame maker. Two of her sisters also worked at the picture frame factory. Ellen appeared as Helen occasionally on records.

On 31 October 1919 Ellen married Joseph Johnston at home according to the forms of the United Free Church. She was 22 years old, lived at 47 Clarence Street, and worked as a machinist in a shirt factory. She and Joseph had at least one child, John Forsyth Johnston.

Ellen brought a divorce action against Joseph, which was finalized on 17 Jun 1949. She lived on 5 Mingarry Street, Glasgow, at the time. She married Francis McDade Ballantine on 27 September 1949 in the office of the Registrar for the district of Hillhead in Glasgow. She was 53 years old and lived at 5 Mingarry Street in Glasgow.

She died on 3 July 1982 at Stobhill Hospital of a cerebro-vascular accident, alimentary hemorrhage, and congestive cardiac failure. She was 85 years old at the time of her death and lived on 64 Hathaway Lane in Glasgow. Her son was the informant listed on her death registration.
