William Forsyth was born on 11 November 1889 at his parents' home on 165 Brook Street in the Camlachie district of Glasgow. His parents were Robert and Elizabeth (Riddell) Forsyth and his father was a carter. When his father registered his birth later in November 1889, he registered his hame as William John Riddell Forsyth. This was changed on 4 February 1890 in a register of corrected entries to William Forsyth under the authority of Reverend John Jenkins, minister of the Great Hamilton Street Congregational Church in Glasgow.
In 1891 William lived with his family at the home where he was born on Brook Street. Ten years later the family lived on 14 Margaret Street in the St. David district of Glasgow and by 1911 the family lived on 230 Holm Street also in Glasgow. William, like his father, was working as a carter.
On 4 April 1913 he married Sarah Chalmers at his parents home on Holm Street according to the forms of the United Free Church. He was 23 years old and worked as a carter. The couple had at least two sons.
Sarah (Chalmers) Forsyth died in 1961 and William married Josephine Livingston (Anderson) Thorrat, a widow, in 1963 in the Cathcart area of Glasgow.
Thomas died on 17 April 1974 at the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow of renal failure. He was 84 years old and a retired haulage contractor's foreman. His usual residence was 56 Boyd Street in Glasgow.
