Robert Forsyth Sproull was born on 25 April 1919 at 13 Couper Place in the St. Rollox district of Glasgow. He was the son of Martha Muir (Forsyth) Paton and her second husband, James Sproull. His father worked as a carter.
According to Robert's son, he married Mary Elizabeth Cram in 1946 in Bishop Auckland, England, which is in County Durham. The couple and their children lived in Scotland until 1968 when they moved to England. They had at least one son.
Robert Forsyth Sproull died in January 2005 in Darlington, Durham, England.
