2.3.5.7. Francis McDade (1895-before 1982)

Francis McDade was born on 23 May 1895 at 55 Unity Street in Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland, to Robert and Annie Buchanan. His father was a cabinet maker. Francis was baptized on 20 June of the same year. Between 1879 and 1895, the family bounced back and forth between Belfast and Glasgow. However, by 1901 Annie McDade was a widow and had moved her family to Glasgow. They lived on 48 South Coburg Street in the Govan district. Francis attended school. In 1911 they lived on 115 Thistle Street in the Hutchesontown district. Francis worked as a French polisher, who was someone who brought a fine finish to wooden furniture using oils.

Francis McDade married Ellen Forsyth in 1949 in the Hillhead area of Glasgow. He was 54 years old and had not previously been married. He lived at 61 Oran Street in Glasgow and still worked as a French polisher. He signed the marriage registrations as Francis McDade Ballantine and listed his parents names as Robert McDade (deceased) and Annie Ballantine (previously McDade), maiden name Buchanan (deceased). This would lead one to believe Francis' mother had remarried, but I do not believe that to be the case. She died in 1933 and her name was recorded as Annie McDade, widow of Robert McDade, cabinet maker.

Ellen's death registration indicated she was a widow. She died in 1982 so Francis likely died before then; however, I have been unable to find a death registration.
