2.3.6.2. Arthur Craig (1894-1968)

Arthur Craig was born on 30 June 1894 at Letterick Farm in Cambuslang, Scotland, to Peter and Agnes (Watt) Craig. His father was a farmer. In 1901 the family, which was quite large, lived at Mid-Letterick Farm and Arthur attended school.

By 1911 Arthur's Father, Peter, had died but several of his sons and daughters, including Arthur continued to work on the farm. Mid Letterick farm had been leased by the Craig family since at least 1885 from the Duke of Hamilton's estate. The property included a house, grazings, woodlands, and farm land.

Arthur married Martha Muir Riddell on 30 December 1924 at her parents home, Gertrude Cottage, on 7 Scott Street in Hamilton. He was 30 years old, two years younger than his bride, and lived and worked on the family farm in Camsbuslang.

Arthur's brother, James, bought Mid Letterick farm from the duke's estate sometime between 1920 and 1925. It is unknown if Arthur and Martha lived at the farm. She died about six months after their marriage and Arthur never remarried.

He died on 2 August 1968 at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride of hypostatic pneumonia, and cerebral atherosclerosis. He was 74 years old, was a retired farmer and lived at Bardykes Farm in Hamilton.
