DIPLOCK, Margaret (nee Richmond), on July 8, 2004, Margaret Diplock, our beloved mother, grandma, great-grandma, passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Predeceased by her loving husband Bob in October 2002 and by her eldest son, Bruce in April 1968. Margaret is survived by her two daughters Sandra (George) Coburn, Coral (Dave) Hanna, three sons, Alfred, George (Patricia), Daniel (Catherine), eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, her sister Kate and brother Roy.
A life-long resident of Nanaimo, Margaret was born on June 26, 1922, the youngest daughter of Thomas and Katherine Richmond. In her early years Margaret attended Northfield School and went on to take courses in dress design and automotive mechanics. Margaret enrolled in the Canadian Women's Army Corps in January of 1942 and served in Canada and the United Kingdom until being discharged in February, 1946. She married her childhood sweetheart Bob in November of that year and settled down to raise a family of six children. By Bob's side, Margaret ran a successful company, Diplock Masonry, until retiring in 1983. Margaret enjoyed her family, friends, gardening, managing the Diplock Masonry Youth Soccer team and the simple pleasures of life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service to celebrate Margaret's life will be held on July 17, 2004 at 1 p.m. at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC. Donations can be made in Margaret's memory to a charity of your choice.
