On 15 September 1928, Robert and his sister, Mary, boarded the Canadian Pacific Line's S/S Montcalm at Greenock. He lived at Udston Rows before their departure and attended school. They arrived at the port in Quebec on 21 September and likely traveled by rail to their father's home in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
On 8 October 1936 Robert married Margaret Campbell Clelland Jamieson at 300 Robson Street in Nanaimo. Robert was 21 years old, worked as a farmer, and lived at 706 Haliburton Street. The couple had two children. I have been unable to find any information on their daughter, Margaret R.
I believe the following is an accurate depiction of Robert's adult life gleaned through Canadian voters lists:
- 1945 Nanaimo, 715 Halliburton Street; occupation: Miner
- 1953 Nanaimo, R. R. 3; occupation: Grindman
- 1957 Nanaimo, R. R. 3, lived with wife, Mrs. Robert; occupation: Groundsman
- 1962 Nanaimo, East Wellington, lived with wife, Mrs. Robert; occupation Truck driver
- 1972 Nanaimo, 1641 Bowen Road, lived with Mrs. Margaret and Miss Margaret R.; occupation: Helper
- 1972 Nanaimo, 1641 Bowen Road, lived with Mrs. Margaret and Miss Margaret R.; occupation: British Columbia hydro helper
