Malcolm Riddell was born on 14 June 1917 at 11 High Dykehead Rows in Hamilton to Hamilton McCormick and Elizabeth (Rooney) Riddell. His father was a coal miner.
Malcolm married Margaret Kerr on 11 December 1936 at the South Manse in Hollandbush according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. He was 19 years old at the time of his marriage, lived at 40 William Drive in Eddlewood and worked as a farm laborer. The couple had one known son.
Malcolm Riddell died on 13 March 1988 at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride of an exacerbation of chronic obstructive airways disease. He was 70 years old at the time of his death, lived at 15 Annsfield Road in Hamilton and was a retired security guard. His wife, Margaret, died the year previous.
