By 1911 the family lived at Kirkhead Rows in Hanilton parish and Hamilton Riddell was a coal miner. He married Elizabeth Rooney on 29 December 1911 at the Manse in Burnbank area of Hamilton parish. Hamilton was 22 years old, worked as a miner, and lived with his family at 16 Dykehead Row at the time of his marriage. Hamilton and Elizabeth had two known sons, Robert and Malcom Riddell.
In 1920 he rented a house in Dykehead Row from William Boyd, a tailor, for 4 pounds, 10 shillings a year. His brothers, Robert and William, also rented houses in the Rows that same year. By 1925 Hamilton rented 27 Udston Square in Hamilton for an annual rent of 3 pounds 9 shillings.
Hamilton Riddell died on 13 July 1960 at Strathclyde Hospital in Motherwell of pyonephrosis (an infection of the renal collecting system), and broncho-pneumonia. He was 70 years old at the time of his death, a retired coal miner, and lived at 17 Parks View in Hamilton before he was admitted to the hospital.
