James Brodie was born on 15 December 1879 at Causeystanes in Blantyre Parish, Lanark, to William and Henrietta (Cassels) Brodie. He was their third child and oldest son. When the 1881 Scotland census was enumerated on the night of 3 April, he was living with his parents and siblings on 20 Park Street. He died at the same address on 6 January 1882 at the age of 2 years of measles and tabes mesenteric, a childhood wasting disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the lymphatic glands.2.2.2.4. William Brodie was born on 2 April 1884 at 20 Park Street in Blantyre to William and Henrietta (Cassels) Brodie. He was their fifth child and only son who live past early childhood. When the 1891 Scotland census was taken on the night of 5 April, he was living with his parents and siblings at 9 Calder Street. Ten years later, at the age of 16, he was working as a coal hewer and lived with his parents and siblings at 15 Dixon Street. He died at the same address two years later on 17 April 1903 of cardia dilation. It is a condition where the size of the heart cavity becomes enlarged and stretched, thinning out the heart muscle.2.2.2.6. Henrietta Cassels Brodie (1892-1965)
