Each week a friend, neighbor or you will be pictured here together with a brief biography. Customers, photographed at Vahty, will be presented with a $5 gift certificate.

As most people know Suzy Knickerbocker is a nationally syndicated society reporter, New London County may have its own Suzie in this weeks busy-busy, Who's Who, Mrs. Joseph Shartiag. Husband Joe, an engineer at EB, has dubbed his wife, "Social Suzie" -- and here's why. She is the vice president of the New London Chapter Hadassah; the treasurer of B'nai Brith Chapter 19; is the junior activities chairman of the Christy Hills Garden Club and the Fine Arts chairman of Ladyard-Gales Ferry Jr. Women's Club. Lois also does substitute teaching at the Ladyard H.S. When time permitted Michael, 6, and Beth, 2, were added to round out the family. Present Lois is busy organizing ladies of her Women's Club and recruiting others for house to house soliciting for the March of Dimes; this drive will continue to the end of this month. Heavens to Betsy then what!

Favorite Recipe: Oriental Meat Balls. Combine 2 pounds ground beef, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepperinto 30 meatballs and fry in hot oil. Blend 1/2 cup chicken broth with 3 tablespoons corn starch and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Add 1/2 cup chicken broth, 2 teaspoons soy sauce, 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup light corn syrup to the oil mixture and cook over medium heat stirring constantly until thickened and clear. Add 3 cut up green peppers, 1 small can pineapple chunks and 12 Maraschino cherries. Cook for 5 minutes and pour over meatballs. Serve with rice.
