Lois Ann Siegel was born on 12 May 1939 in Illinois, likely in East St. Louis, to Norman Siegel and Norma Kramer. When the 1940 census was enumerated the family lived at 1724 -- 25th Street in East St. Louis in a home they owned that was valued at $2,500. Lois' father worked as an automobile buyer for a salvage yard.
Lois Ann Siegel married Joseph "Joe" Kenneth Shartiag about 1961 and the couple had two children. When they married, Joe was an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. When he left the service, they settled in Chicago and lived in the city or its environs for the remainder of their married life. Joe died in 2015.
