2.3.6.5. John Kerr Wilson Riddell (1900-1991)

John Kerr Wilson Riddell was born at his parents' home on 28 Woodside Walk in Hamilton to Francis and Janet (Kerr) Riddell. He was their fifth child and his father drove a bakery delivery van. When the census was enumerated in 1901 the family lived at the same address. By 1911 they had moved to Gertrude Cottage on 7 Scott Street in Hamilton. John's father later bought the cottage as well as two other nearby properties. John was still attending school in 1911.

He married Mary Jane Neill Walker on 17 April 1929 at 7 Cadzow Street in Hamilton according to the forms of the Christian Brethren. He was 28 years old, lived with his parents at 13 Scott Street, and worked for his father's confectionary business as a salesman. The couple had one known child.

John lost his wife, Mary Jane, in 1978. He died on 3 January 1991 at his home on 36 Scott Street in Hamilton, which had been his parents' home before him, of myocardial infarction, myocardial ischemia, and pulmonary thrombosis. He was 90 years old at the time of his death and retired from the wholesale confectioner, perhaps taking over his father's business.
