Mary Hamilton was born on 23 November 1911 at 5 North Street in Paisley, Scotland, to John and Ann Tate (McMurray) Hamilton. Her parents had twins the year before, John and Mary Hamilton, but little Mary died when she was three days old. So the Mary born in 1911 was the couple's second child named Mary. Her father was a coal salesman.
On 26 December 1930 Mary married Oswald Dykes Riddell at the Duntocher West Church Manse in Dalmuir. She was 19 years old, lived at 33 William Street and worked as a hosiery machinist. It is not known if she and Oswald had children.
Mary died in 1997 in Old Kilpatrick parish. She had been a widow for 5 years.
