Henrietta Geddes McGregor Buchanan was born on 21 October 1907 at 56 Miller Street in Hamilton to John and Margaret (Meikle) Buchanan. Her father was a journeyman blacksmith. When the 1911 census was enumerated, the family was living on 133 Quarry Street in Hamilton. Henrietta was called Hetty as a child.
She married Francis Riddell on 27 June 1936 at the Royal Hotel in Hamilton according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. She was 28 years old, lived on 63 Bent Road, and worked as an assistant in a milliner's shop. It is not known if the couple had children.
Henrietta lost her husband in 2000. She died two years later in 2002 in Lesmahagow. She was 95 years old and had been married for 64 years.
