Henrietta Riddell was born on 31 January 1903 at 22 Woodside Walk in Hamilton. She was the sixth child of Francis and Janet (Kerr) Riddell. Her father was a biscuit agent. By 1911 the family had moved to Gertrude Cottage on 7 Scott Street in Hamilton.
Henrietta married late in life in 1952 in Hamilton at the age of 49 to Alexander Arbuthnot. He was a widower, who had lost his wife in 1948. The couple moved to Largs, Ayrshire, which was the lifelong home of Alexander.
Henrietta died seven years later on 5 September 1959 at 34 Kelvin Street in Largs, Ayrshire, of carcinoma of the uterus. She was 56 years old.
