On 15 March 1927 he married Henrietta Findlay at the United Free Church Manse in Auchenlochan, which was located in Kilfinan Parish. He was a gardener at the time of their marriage.
John and Henrietta may have had six children. John died in 1976 in South Cowal, Argyll.
