Jessie Dundas Findlay was born in East Kilbride Parish in 1926 to John and Susan (Dundas) Findlay. She was their youngest known child.
At the age of 24 she boarded the Donaldson Line's S/S Lismoria in Glasgow on 4 September 1950 with her mother. They arrived in Quebec on 12 September and were headed to 4540 -- 34th Street, San Diego. Jessie lived at home with her parents on 8 Kirkton Place in East Kilbride at the time of her trip and worked as a clerk. To return to Scotland, she and her mother sailed on the Donaldson Line's S/S Laurentian. They boarded the ship in Montreal and arrived in Glasgow on 16 October 1950, traveling first class.
Three years later, Jessie married Thomas Williams Mabbott in East Kilbride. They had two children.
Jessie died suddenly on 29 August 2012 at the age of 86. She and her husband, Tom, were living in South Queensferry at the time of her death. Her obituary and photograph are available on The Scotsman's website.
