2.12.9. Mayme Zebio (1887-1970)

Mayme Zebio was born on 27 January 1887 in Collinsville, Illinois, to Louis Zebio and Mary Frey. Her father had emigrated from Italy about 1879 and her mother's parents were born in Switzerland. When the 1900 census was enumerated, the family lived on Centre Street in Collinsville and Mayme's father worked as a coal miner.

According to Grandma Jennings' genealogy notebook, Mayme married Peter Semple Muir on 1 July 1908. It's possible they met through Peter's older brother, Robert, who had married a young woman from the Collinsville area in 1902.

By 1910 Mayme and Peter lived at 911 Main Street in Ottumwa, Iowa. She had lost their first child a year earlier. The young family moved to Mystic, Iowa, later in 1910. Peter's father lived there with his second wife. Mayme lost their second child in Mystic.

Between 1914 and 1917 the family moved to Michigan where they remained for the rest of their lives. They likely lived on a farm in Dearborn first and Peter got a job as a machinist at the Ford factory. They lost a third child in 1921 to diphtheria.

The family moved to Palmyra, Michigan, by 1930 where Peter continued to work in the automobile industry, but by 1940 they had moved to Detroit and lived in a home they owned at 9335 Hubbell Avenue, which was valued at $1,200. Like so many other properties in the city, this address is now a vacant lot.

Mayme's husband died in 1947. Mayme (Zebio) Muir died on 10 November 1970. She was interred at Grand Lawn Cemetery in Detroit beside her husband.
