2.3.8. Margaret Riddell (1871-1879)

Margaret Riddell was the youngest child born to John and Martha (Muir) Riddell. She was born on 5 August 1871 in the village of Kirkton in East Kilbride Parish, Lanarkshire. When she was five years old her mother died of tuberculosis. Margaret died on 5 February 1879 of whooping cough and purpura, which was a purplish discoloration of the skin caused by burst blood vessels. Usually purpura was caused by the violent coughing associated with whooping cough. She'd had whooping cough for a month before her death.
